  1. I authored a 2 hour film at 192kbps audio and 9200kbps. this is a 10gig file. what i wanted to do was to load this into tmpgenc dvd author and then into dvd shrink. i encoded it at the highest setting i could and hoped dvd shrink would do the rest. unfortuatly, tmpgenc author wont write anything over 8 gigs. i get an error. wat shud i do.

Encode using a lower video bitrate so it will fit for best video quality.

When I capture a movie with my Hauppauge 250, I use the tool on this page:

    https://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm

    Works perfectly every time.

Well if TMPGenc DVD Author won't output greater than 8GB, I'd say you're SOL
    If in doubt, Google it.

Why? You would get better results if you encode to the correct bitrate first, rather than have Shrink transcode.

...but that was obviously not what Jamie wanted to hear, right?
(Even if you're correct in your observation.)

Isn't the point for it come out the best quality possible? Therefore it is better to encode to bitrate that will fit your project in the first place. This would also save time.

Yes, how many times does it have to be said:
Encoding at the right bit rate to begin with, gives you higher quality than encoding at a bit rate too high to fit the media, then transcoding (shrinking) it down to fit.

    If in doubt, Google it.

The settings you have chosen are too large to fit on a DVD9, which is why tmpgenc won't let you author it. Even studio releases aren't encoded like this.

As you have been told over and over, encode at the correct rate first (I would encode as 2 pass VBR), as this will give you much better results than shrink.
