  1. Well, I have looked forever for a way to do this and havent found one. Is there a way to change which codec will be used for certain formats?

I have WinDVD installed so the various media players were using the Intervideo decoder for MPEG-2 decoding. Then I installed the Dscaler 5 decoder and now the system uses it by default. Now, the only way I can get it to use the Intervideo decoder again is to unregister it and reregister it which is getting annoying.

Is there an easier way to do this? Maybe a dialog somewhere or a list in the registry? Or how about an app that will list the different ones let me change their order?

DECCHECKSetup will allow you to choose your preferred MPEG decoder.

It will work in all flavors of XP

  3. that is setting a preferred synchronization decoder, not a decoder for playback. I tried it makes no changes for playback.

  4. AHA, thanks a lot..

It's not a pretty solution, but it is functional. Looks like "merit" is the keyword I couldnt come up with.

  5. Here is another very powerful manager of DirectShow Filters called FILMERIT with easy change of Merits. Moreover, you may change a hole Merit configuration in a log file an load it later at once if needed by a specific application.
