the only difference between the 1620 and 1620 Pro is that the Pro does 4X DL write rite out of the box; so when you cross flash your OEM and upgrade firmware to the latest available is B7P9 you have the Pro model. For some reason the BenQ european site offers firmware updates before the US site does.
I have burnt over 75 Backups with my 1620 using Shrink, CloneDVD2, Recode, and she sleeps grate with all of them. I use -R and +R which ever is the cheepest among the better discs made; but she has never argued with ProDisc, or OptoDisc either.
Get the BenQ or a (Rebagged) or OEM and just cross flash and upgrade and you will have the Pro model.kip -
In case it's not ultra clear, the BenG DW1620 Pro and on-pro are the same drive physically and you can convert a non-pro to Pro just by flashing to the "P" level firmware and/or beyond then your non-pro becomes a pro and does 4x DL.
