  1. Hi,

I live in the USA and own a TV bought here in the USA,
which I am guessing plays only NTSC.

I am thinking of buying a DVD recorder and
I would like to make DVDs viewable on my TV and PC
    from a variety of sources:

    * I have a lot of personal PAL VHS video tapes.
    * I also have some NTSC video tapes.
    * I also have a satellite receiver - dish network - that outputs the
signal using a BNC connection. But I suppose that it could output
    it via RCA as well.
    * I have some mpeg and avi files on my laptop.
    * I have some personal DVDs of family functions that were given to me.
    (Need to make copies).

Now, PAL is better than NTSC. So ideally, if I were to convert my PAL
VHS tapes, I would like to keep a PAL version as well, in addition to
    NTSC.

What are all the equipment I need? Do I need to get a multisystem VHS
player? Will dvd recorders capture and record my tv signal? Will dvd players in the usa play pal dvds? How do the dvd regions fit into all this?
Is there a dvd player that takes a PAL dvd and outputs an NTSC signal for my tv ?

Finally, it is possible to capture my PAL VHS into PC video files, retaining the original quality/resolution ?

    Thanks,
    PM000

Not so sure what's the best answer for the rest but your computer can care less whether it's PAL or NTSC. The only thing you need is PAL VHS deck and capture unit that can capture PAL or NTSC, most are capable of this. You only need to switch it in the configuration between the two.
