the list can be changed in the registry to not show any or more
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Freeware\VirtualDubMod\MRU List
change value in string MRUList to no entries (i.e delete the 'abcd" value found there) ..
or if you want to just delete the last entries there - you can do that also"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -

windows recent files ? or virtualdubs ?
for v-dub , see above ..
for windows - its easy ..
copy and paste the following code into a file and name it nofile.reg then right click on it and select merge ... you may have to reboot for it to take effect
Code:REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Comdlg32] "NoFileMru"=dword:00000001
for the windows media player -- run ClearMRU.exe (found in the media player power tools bonus pack - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download )"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
well, im actually using virtualdub (not the mod version) and i tried doing liek you said. I tried changing the value of the MRUList to 'no entries' (that got rid of the recent file list but when i load something again, it shows up again).

you didnt ask how to keep it empty ...
just make a bat file the clears it out everytime you click on it -- or make a reg file that clear it .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Clearing, deleting or renaming the MRU won't work because Vdub recreates the list when it starts.
If you are running Windows 2000 or Windows XP you can change the permissions on the list so that VDub can't read or write to it, this doesn't affect the running of VDub but it does keep the list empty.
Right-click on the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Freeware\VirtualDubMod\MRU List" registry entry and select 'permissions' and for each of the user accounts on your machine tick the 'Deny' options. (Leave the admin permissions as they are so that you can restore the user permissions if you need to).
Now when any of the users run VDub it will not be able to read from or write to the list. -

try it out -- i tested it .... works fine the way i suggested ..
if it can not write the mru -- sometmes you get a lock up of vdub"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -

im kinda confused but not too worried since i prolly wont want to allow access anyway and if anything goes wrong, ill just re-download it/reinstall. -
that would be system access - which you denied

so how do i into the admin account? can i allow access again from this account?
-
just dont worry about it - really

Your account, although not the Master Admin was probably created with "admin rights". -

Not that I've ever had to do this ... you understand! -
Just to add some information from the author of Virtualdub. I downloaded 1.10.3 experimental and it is included:
In
recent versions, this is controllable in Options | Preferences | History... but
be warned, this is not the only place your file history is stored. Windows
itself tracks the locations that where the generic File/Open dialog is used to
try to save you time by re-opening in the last place you used it for particular
file types.

The latest stable version of VirtualDub is 1.9.11.
The latest experimental version of VirtualDub is
1.10.3.
