  1. I have a few specific questions regarding double layered DVD (recordable):

    1) most DVD players play double layer (commercial) DVD discs, I think all of them MUST. NOT all of them play DL DVD+/-R, is this true ?

    2) in order to author for DL DVD, do I have to use special DVD authoring tool ?

    3) do I need special software for burning DL DVD ?

I am thinking about buying a DL DVD burner as the price is so... low right now. Of course, I could use it to burn single layer DVD, but I am preparing for DL.

Thanks for any help I could get on this.

#1 true, since there is so little user data and media for DL, we just don't know what works and what doesn't yet.

DL technology must be tested for writers, media and players in all combinations.

  5. My (extremely limited) experience with DL has taught me this:
My Lite-on 451s@832s burns +RDL @8x with no trouble in Nero.
My 3 extremely cheap dvd players all play the burns properly.
I have authored exclusively in DVDLab.
Nero automatically detected the correct size of the disk (8.1gb) and burned accordingly.
Using Verbatim disks, which are HUGELY expensive ($50 for 3)!!!

  6. Thanks for all the replies, now I have a much clearer picture on DL discs.
So the price of blank DL is still too high to be practical. I will wait then.
