  1. I have a low CPU and I'd like to capture to DVD resolution if I can.

I test with PicVideo but I can only capture to SVCD (quality 17) but the jpeg compression is already quite visible.

Does the Morgan MJpeg could help me ?

My hard disks have a transfert of +/- 12000 kb/sec

Which codec is the best for me ?

    Thx.

    What are your computer specs?
    Real time DVD MPeg2 encoding requires a fast machine ~ > 2.4GHz P4
Alternative is to capture to DV format and later encode to MPeg2 as a non-realtime process. Another alternative is to buy a capture card with a hardware MPeg2 encoder.

The PICVideo MJPEG codec looks really good on the 19 quality setting. That is only one setting down from the top setting (which is 20).

I once had (not that long ago) a P3 650Mhz with 256MB RAM and I could capture Full D1 resolution with my PCI capture card using the PICVideo MJPEG codec on the 19 quality setting without dropping frames. I had 2 7200RPM HDD's and always captured to the 2nd, non-system HDD.

    *** EDIT ***
I just noticed your computer specs. Sorry man but those are REALLY LOW when it comes to video capture. You might as well forget it with that computer. The only thing that might work for you is a hardware MPEG capture card such as the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150

  4. cd090580,

The highest resolution I was able to capture with my old PII 400Mhz computer after tweaking the system was 800x600 25fps without any dropped frames. The only codec that was fast enough for this to work was the picvideo mjpeg codec and this codec was so fast that I could capture 800x600 25fps to the same drive that windows was installed on without having any dropped frames.

  6. I was using Win95B(osr2.1) when I did this and I don't know if it's possible to do this with Win2000.
