I'm trying to capture the movie POWDER from VHS with an ATI Radeon 64
I can see the movie in my capture window in V-Dub no problem - it gets light and dark, etc... but when i play back the file it is just a GREEN SCREEN!!! Capturing from the same source (its connected to VCR) but only using TV channels is fine. I've captured other video just fine too. Please throw some suggestions my way.

    NEW INFO:
It seems its the stupid ATI card - i tried using the ATI MMC just for ha-has. When the video is playing, the RECORD OPTION IS NOT EVEN AVAILABLE! So i tried to "trick" it by stopping the tape (then record is avail. hmmm...) and then recording the TV source, while recording, playing the video. WELL IT STOPPED MY RECORDING WHEN THE VIDEO STARTED!!! WTF!!! Does anyone know of a way to disable this????

Some VHS videos have Macrovision just like DVDs making it impossible (well not really impossible, I'm sure someone here has a way around it. Unfortunatly I don't ) to capture them.
I only dream in black & white...

To check if your video has Macrovision, look at the back of the video cover and down the bottom look for something saying Macrovision or a triangle symbol with "CP" (copy protection) in it.

OK - did some quick searches - there are many little patches that get rid of TV-OUT macrovision - so far i just ran across one on Doom's site that removes it from the IN. And it works nicely. No more panic (but it's wayyyy past my bedtime.) I still get the light, then dark. But that's more tolerable than just a green screen. ATI blows chunks, man. I always have to find some way around thier stupid hardware issues. Hey does anyone have any idea what squish luminance means on V-dub capture?

  5. The software option is good but try a RGB (from scart) to S-Video converter. Lektopacks.co.uk do one @£50 and it removes everything (you know what I mean) and works with sky digital, vcr, svcr and dvd's. Unit also offers S-Video out (most cards support) with loop through audio and comp video. A bit on the large side of ££££ but works and looks quite nice to boot.

Never used S-Video before, used to use ariel (RF) , try it it kicks ass.

    Q. Is there a capture card out there which accepts RGB scart or component input's (Max quality)

    Cheers..
