A lot of people did in early 2000-2002 as well. Don't know about the 80's, but the last one was the DOT-COM bust.

The first interview went really well. It was a phone interview.

His assistant is going to call me for a second interview later this week.

Not bad at all. I took a "temp" job as a QA tester, moved to Software Engineering after 4 months. They gave me a 9 month contract. Then, on Friday, gave me a full time position offer. My first official day was yesterday, after having been there for a year!

If I don't get the temp part I'll go full force into looking for something permanent.

I read an article the other day saying that the global weather pattern has changed due to a certain kind of current in conjuction with the regular El Nino. They said it's something that hasn't occurred for about 40 years and then 40 years before that. It's not global warming that is causing all of the wild weather that has plagued the world in the past couple of weeks.

I'm going to start another thread about global warming now....bye

The death toll in California was at 21 on Tuesday due to the rain. And the mudslide at La Conchita - absolutely incredible. You have to see it to believe it! It's almost like the pix coming from Asia.

As I checked MS Encarta on Detroit City. I noticed the temperature there as a so mild 54° F or 12° C and probably no snow for now.

This is as so unusual for place like that as next door to Canada.

I also noticed that snow is coming over the weekend at Detroit at sub-freezing temperatures.

Is there any advantage of residing at Detroit next the border?

Is Canada over the border any better or worse?

What a poor Detroit and a poor Los Angeles for having bad weather there too.

Poor me having a heat wave for 2 or more days yet.

Me too, I did experienced unusual weather conditions.

In Sydney as quite cool over the Xmas/New Year period and some nights the temperature dropped to only 50° F or 10 ° C to only as recently as Tuesday night of this week.

It is now getting into a heat wave into a 100° F.

On the same day there was fire devastation in a wide area at South Australia killing 9 and injured 117.

Everything was destroyed, from homes, cars to livestock in an area of 80,000 hectares.

Check out: Aussie ABC News Online

There is an extreme heat wave in Sydney and I have to check for any news and be on alert of any fires here.

This Saturday, there's a possibility of snow in Portland, OR. Three days later, the extended forecast predicts temps nearing the 60-degree mark. This is a weird January, that's for sure. The other day, I saw a huge flock of geese ... flying North. And while I don't normally see them until late February or early March, I saw some spiders a couple of days ago. And, my cat is starting to shed her winter coat. Maybe the animals know something climatologists don't.

    Hello,

Yep Dr Gee is right Southeastern Michigan is the only place you actually have to drive SOUTH to go to Canada!

And it's just DETROIT not Detroit City

I think Windsor is generally a much more suburban place than Detroit is - ie smaller population center

Nice place been there a few times though not that much considering how close I am.....

Though one of my neighbors and my family went to windsor to learn how to CURL! They had an exchange student with them and offered for us to go along. So we did (this was about 10-15 years ago). Kinda neat sport. Though I'd never really watch it since I don't know enough about it.

Did you know Curling ice is actually BUMPY???? It's to help the rock slide better somehow.. less friction???

I know it's just as Detroit and as north of Windsor on the other side of the border.

I've seen Windsor in the atlas on this PC. I agree as so much smaller and much more suburban place to that of nearby Detroit.

I am just curious? Would you need a passport to enter Detroit from Windsor on way to work everyday? LOL.

I wouldn't know what Curling ice is?

Well I think they have "commuter passes" for foreign workers (both ways I think). There's some way to speed up the border crossing. I think it's the busiest crossing for the US.

Well do you know what Curling is??????

Kevin, I just looked up about this?

This is what it says: game played on ice, especially common in Scotland, in which two teams slide a series of heavy smooth stones with the aim of reaching a target circle and/or dislodging the opposing team's stone(s) already in the circle.

So, a game played on ice. We don't have much snow in Australia and ice a rarity here. This why I don't know?

Generally, the Australian Alps is usually is where heaps of snow falls each winter.

Sometimes in areas west of Sydney, areas in Victoria and Tasmania can get some snow too.

Snow as a rarity elsewhere in Australia and nothing like at Detroit.

It is extremely hot outside over 100° F
