I have a GA-7N400 Pro2 (First Revision) Motherboard. And when I connect DVD drives (writers or readers). DVD Decrypter and Windows think that the drives are SCSI. This only happens when I connect the drive to the third IDE channel (I haven't tested with fourth IDE channel). The are definately not SCSI and appear and work normally when connected to the second IDE channel.

It the drives behave like they are in PIO instead of UDMA. Read and write speeds always lower the 2x's.

Anybody have a clues of what could be going on.

If you need more info to help please ask for the info. Some of my specs are on my profile.

Thanks if you can help thanks if you even try to help.

Oh sorry if this is in the wrong Forum I wasn't sure which category to choose.

Device mangler says the the drives are connected to the "ITE IT8212 ATA RAID CONTROLLER". I turned off the RAID functionallity since these are DVD drive not harddrives. This IDE channel is set to act like a normal IDE channel not a RAID controller, but maybe I did this wrong. Also I probably should get a bigger power supply I am only using a 350W, but everything else functions normally.

Controllers other than the main IDE controller usually show up as SCSI devices. They're not normally intended for optical drives. You may want to consider moving a hard drive to the other controller and putting the DVD drive on the main controller. The hard drive should still operate at full speed.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Thanks. Is it ok if I have a hardrive and a optical drive on the same IDE channel?

I haven't tried that before. When I use the third and fourth IDE channels for hard discs wil I be able choose the dma mode.

You can do it but the HD will run as slow as the optical drive. 33 or 66mb/s vs. the normal 100 or 133. Best not to do it or buy a pci controller card if you need more channels

Thanks for the info my fastest oypical drive is only dma4 which is 66 and my harddrives are both dma6 133.

I just ordered a new burner the NEC 3520 which is supposed to be a good ripper, I know that using a writer as a ripper puts extra wear and tear on the drive, but it will be a better ripper than any of my other drives.

When the new drive gets here I am going to move around some drives between the computers I have.

I am finally going to go ahead and get my number 3 computer up and running.

It's a POS, but it's main purpose will be internet. for the other people in my house.

I probably shouldn't have as much stuff hooked up to my primary computer like I said before I only have a 350W power supply. I am just being a pack rat having a those drives hooked up.

    Thank you again.
