    Hello,

Ok I've got a wireless G pc card for my old P2 laptop. I have a wireless G router for my pc. After hours and hours of messing around with it I can get the two to talk to each other no problem if WEP is off. BUT I want WEP on for obvious reasons.

Currently I can acheive a connection and the little lock icon shows but it shows I AM connected to the network.

HOWEVER when I try to run IE I don't get any internet access. What gives????? It's Windows 98 and IE 5.5 (I think I don't think 6 runs on 98).

I manually entered all the IP and dns info on the wireless pc card so it will connect. Is there some kind of manual script I need for the browser to accept the wireless lan connection???? I think I'm finally getting some understanding in the networking world but one last step seems to elude me. I could just turn off wep and surf but I want SOME protection.

    Thanks for any help.

First, IE6 SP1 should run on 98. You may want to verify that your DNS settings are correct. I'd recommend DHCP until you've gotten a better understanding of networking. Unless you disabled it, your router should be assigning you all your IP and DNS info.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

    Hello,

    Ok I thought 6 was 2000 + only....

I'll double check my settings and all. The weird part is it shows a connection in my PC CARD utility but no internet through IE.....

Are you able to map network drives to the laptop from the host pc? Are the WEP settings setup in the software for the wireless card?

    Hello,

That's what I'm not sure about. The network neighboorhood isn't responding on the '98 laptop.

I do show a connection in the wireless lan utility on the notebook. But no browser activity. I haven't had a chance to mess with it lately. So I'll try and get a check on it later.

    Thanks
