I downloaded some AVI files and am trying to convert them into MPEGs. These AVI files play fine on my Windows Media Player. But when I try to convert them with TMPGEnc, there is no video, only audio. I followed all the instructions on this page, but still no luck. Also, when I try to play these AVI files on my Real Player, it says cannot play this MP43 file. I don't know if that might help. Please let me know if anyone can help...thanks

  2. I had one of those avi files the other day. I loaded it in VirtualDub & saved avi video then saved the audio as a wav. 2 seperate files, an avi (with no sound) & a wav file (with no video) then in TMPGEnc I joined the 2 files together as an MPEG-2 for SVCD. Came out great.

    Good Luck

    Hey Fred T. Cat,

WHen you saved the files as .avi and .wav in Virtualdub, does it take a lot of time (and does it involve any encoding) or is it just normal saving.

I also got a problem similar to micnite i.e. no video only sound when I select PAL template

Ok, I tried to re-encode it as an AVI in VirtualDub with no sound. Then save the sound as a WAV. The WAV part works with no trouble. The AVI starts out fine, but then about half way through an error message appear:
    "AVIOutput: The Parameter is Incorrect"

Any ideas why this happens? Thanks...

  6. If you have "Direct Stream Copy" set in video you should have no trouble.

  7. No VirtualDub does not take long to save audio or video. maybe 5 minites per each hour.

you are probubly using a corupt divx, the problem with downloaded divx files is about half of then have either missing frames or corrupt frames, so even though they may play on your puter you cannot convert them, if you open them in tmppeg and the video is not present in preview that is more than likely the problem, you can fix them, but it is not worth the time involved.

It turns out that "Direct Stream Copy" was the problem. Once I selected that, it worked without a hitch. Thanks to everyone for their help...
