Alright, I've got an older tv show with multiple eps on dvd, I don't like the main menu of it so I'd like to redo it my way.. the menu is one from tmpg dvd author.. but I'll put the dvd in my drive, and then create new project > add dvd video and it shows me all the episodes on the dvd so I choose one then it says :

Tmpgenc dvd author will not accept svcd(480x480),you can use dvdpatcher to trick tda into accepting it as long as your dvd player will play this type of non compliant dvd, otherwise you will have to re-encode to 352x480.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

Sorry, I pulled that number outta my A$$.

https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=&Search=Search&dvdsvcd=1&country=&orde...Submit2=Search shows that out of 419 DVD players tested for DVD-SVCD compatibility, 360 players support it while 59 don't. This is only based on the user reviews though.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I use TMPGenc Express to transcode(?) mpeg-2's for SVCD into the correct format for TMPGenc DVD Author to accept. Yes, it does take some time but the results are accepted by Author without complaint and the DVDs play on all my squirrelly players.

Can't say I've had any noticeable quality loss. I set the 720x480 size and keep the bitrate just above the original. If you're coming from VHS through mpeg-2 at 480x480, you're not going to lose anything more than you've already experienced simply by having source material in VHS.

I don't recall if there's a demo version of Author available but, if so, it's certainly worth a few hours of transcoding to see the results. Click "go" and have a long dinner.

    Ciao!
