  1. This is a long post, so bear with me.. please.

I had to re-install windows and format my hard-drive to get rid of this evil spyware application called Aureate. I got this computer second hand, so I don't have any drivers on disk for any hardware.

Since i've reinstalled XP, my DVD-Rom (nu 52x24x52x16x DVDR/CD-RW) can not be used to burn on with Nero, it only detects "Image Recorder" as the recording-device and not the CD-RW drive.

Also since ive re-installed, the DVD movie quality is really bad in PowerDVD and WinDVD, the video quality is jumpy and the audio is somewhat choppy. I can remedy this by making the dvd-screen size really small, but that obviously is not a great solution to it.

    Are the two problems linked?
If not what could be the solution to each of the problems?

    Here are my specs
    600mhz 128mb RAM 40gb HDD
Latest DirectX, Nero burning rom 5

Dont tell me to try turning on DMA for my DVD-Rom, as I dont think it has DMA, I certainly can't see it in options.

    It could be the following:-

After installing XP, did you install the correct drivers for you motherboard and your graphics card. That would explain poor DVD playback problems.

With NERO, your version might be an OEM version, that works with a particular drive. You might need to install a serial number for Nero to recognise your writer.

Might be your bios doesn't have your drives listed.
