i'm planning on buying a dvd burner with hdd. if i record a movie that is in the highest quality setting, can i split it to two dvd-r's instead of compressing it to one disc? if so, is this common on most burners? -----it looks like standalobe dvd/hdd recorders will not be out for sometime yet. i'm looking to get the best quality recordings possible onto dvd\r. i just want to know if i can split 2 hour movies from dvr's hdd to 2 dvd\r's. assuming the best quality on a dvr will produce a one hour clip at around 4.3 gigs or so. or should i do this>> " 200 hour RTV4504 with CA and IVS $ 399.95

" and then transfer the movies to my pc's hdd and burn on dual layer drive. what would be easier. as for a standalone dvr, i'm leaning towards a pioneer model, have about 5-6 hundred to spend. is replaytivo.us a reputable site?

You lost me with some of your description, but here is what I think you want to know. The Pioneer DVR-520H-S allows you to split a title to record it as two movies on two DVD-Rs. So you can record at the highest quality mode (which actually is one step below the top setting in the Pioneer because the top setting uses PCM audio and the second setting uses AC-3 audio, allowing for a higher video bit rate), and split the title into segments to fit multiple DVDs.
