Panasonic has announced several new models at CES that will be available in April and May. They will now be able to capture in DVD-Video format to DVD-RW, have higher resolution LP recording mode, and a new 12-bit A/D converter. Good news for all you Panny fans!![]()

There will be some really cool new features in some of these units, including improved hard drive editing and disc transfer capabilities.... and HDMI digital video/audio output for displays and receivers that have it.

Looks like the Pannies still won't play SVCDs. I wonder why...
It also looks like the Japanese units with really large HDDs from many manufacturers will not be crossing the ocean. Toshiba announced a 400 Gig model in Japan but the one from the CES is only 160. I want that 400 Gig model, not the 160! Ditto with Sony. Ditto with Panasonic. What's going on here?? -

Their press release didn't go into any detail about this new higher res LP mode, but it mentioned the 12-bit D/A conversion produces superior clarity... maybe it has something to do with that, or some other pre-encoding processing they have added.

The Panasonic new models are skimpy on the HD.. they should introduce models that exceed 160GiG's on the HD

The E500 has a 400 Gig drive but I guess until they get their Hi-Def recorders out we won't see too many really large HDD models on these shores...
