I just watched "Butterfly Effect" last night. I was not expecting that kind of a performance from Ashton Kucher. Check it out if you haven't already seen it.

I second Maria Full of Grace. Very good movie. In Spanish with Englsh subs.
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

I watched the theatrical version. There's a directors cut on the other side. Which is better?

So can I just scan to the end and watch the extra footage there, or should I watch the whole thing?

You can scan. It was easy to figure out where you are in the movie.

  11. I can highly recommend Old Boy as a rather disturbing action thriller. Some fantastic set pieces and a rather nice plot.

echo that, and everyone else who has concurred. Quite excellent IMO.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  13. The Butterfly Effect was excellent. Alternate reality travel was
portrayed even better than in the 12 monkys; which I also enjoyed!

If you like Kevin Bacon, I think his best performance was Murder in the First.

"A Stir Of Echoes" was quite good when I saw it. Unfortunately, it was overshadowed by a similarly plotted film: "The Sixth Sense". But, "A Stir Of Echoes", I believe, is a good movie.

Other movies that make my critical pick list:

    The Cell
    From Dusk Till Dawn
    The Adventures Of Ford Fairlane
    Good Will Hunting
Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back
The Burbs (Starring Tom Hanks and the great Bruce Dern)
The Cowboys (Starring John Wayne and Bruce Dern)
    High Plains Drifter
    The Outlaw Josey Wales
    Saw

I will have to agree with everyone else on "The Butterfly Effect"; very good for Ashton Kutcher. Joshua Jackson was originally slated to be starring in that film, but must have bailed at the last second. I would've liked to see it with him in it. Great young actor.

I just watched Napolean Dynamite. Quite possibly the stupidest movie in the history of movies.

I agree 200%. Utter crap. The most interesting part was the first 30 seconds. After that, "BOR-ING" (said in a Homer Simpson voice).

I kept hoping that maybe that chick would get naked or something and save the entire movie.

I don't think a full-on porno scene could have saved that movie, nor even a hi-tech gun fight.

Yes it is. I have two copies on DVD.

Another I recommend is Million Dollar Baby. I didn't really expect it to be that good.

  24. VCDHunter & Conquest10,
since you two obviously have some taste
I was going to ask if you had seen Garden State
    and if you liked it?

I really enjoyed it as it slowly grew on me. That and
Napoleon Dynamite made last years film viewing
an enjoyable one, despite all the pap and
    formula crowding the market.

I just saw Motorcycle Diaries and it's not as good
as I expected. Not bad though. I want to see
Weeping Camel as I hear it is quite emotional.

What's funny is that I was at the store and thinking about getting it. I'll stop off tomorrow to buy it and tell you what I think of it.

Some of the best films polarise opinion I guess. I
really dislike "Paths of Glory", but I can recognize it
as a great film that just was not my cup of tea.

I'm becoming a Bill Murray fan, what with "Lost"
and then the brilliant "The Life Aquatic".

"Lost" put the genre one notch higher imo.

    -edit- must get spel chek

I've not seen Life Aquatic or Napoleon Dynamite but both are on my must see list. Motorcycle Diaries is one I may watch. I've never heard of Weeping Camel or Garden State.

  30. Garden state is a quiet understated comedy that grew on me as the film progressed. It starts off in one direction but slowly, like the central character, you are steered in a different direction altogether. Don't go see it and expect anything. Just be neutral and see if it creeps up on you.

From what I've heard, Weeping is like Time for Drunken Horses. A film about how life can be played out even in the harshest of primitive conditions and where survival is an everyday concern. They say it is very sad in parts.

If you have not seen them. I'd strongly recommend Time for Drunken Horses, Himalaya and Children of Heaven.

Right now I'm watching Battlestar Galactica
<hardly A grade stuff, but kind of a guilty pleasure. >
