  1. Hi, I'm converting an AVI file (good quality, no audio sync problems) to DVD-R (MPEG I guess, to be more correct). I'm using dvd2svcd and TMPGenc Plus (not CCE), following chickenman's guide (usually works fine, thanks). For some reason, this particular file converts with an audio sync problem right from the start of the file. The gap is the same from beginning to end. I've run it twice with the same result. Can anybody offer a suggestion.
    Thankyouthankyouthankyou.

have you checked the avi file for bad frames in virtual dub?

  3. Yes (open avi in Virtualdub, full processing mode, scan video for errors). No bad frames. Any other options?

  4. I had a bad a/v sync problem with converting an avi that I finally solved yesterday by doing this:

open the avi in virtualdub and note the video duration (seconds.milliseconds)

open the avi in Goldwave and note the audio duration and subtract it from the video duration noted in vdub

add that amount of silence to the beginning of the wave file in goldwave and save as a wave file.

then use the new .wav with silence added to the beginning as the audio source for encoding to mpeg.

I used the .avi for the video source and the new .wav for audio source in tmpgenc and encoded to vcd and it was in sync.

  5. Thanks! I should also mention that I ran the AVI through virtualdub Mp3 freeze too and there were no bad frames. I'll give your suggestion a try.

  6. Actually, I don't want to convert to VCD. I am trying to convert to DVD. I have added the appropriate time to the beginning of the file and saved it as WAV using Goldwave. Now what do I do? I would guess that I have to separate (demux?) audio and video in the original AVI somehow, then combine the original video with the edited WAV file (mux?).
Correct? How do I do this?
    Thanks.

If you really want to use dvd2svcd with this file then to merge your video to your audio open the file in virtual dub. On video choose direct stream copy. On audio choose full processing and then wave audio then put in your wav file. Then just save as new avi.
