  1. Ok, I'm using a cheap Oritron DVD player to connect to my Mitsubishi WS-55513 tv. When using RCA cables it works fine. Cable also works fine. The problem is when I connect using progressive scan over svid or component cables. I get a huge pink hue to everything on the tv. I had the dvd player connected with SVID before(no progressive scan though) and it worked fine. When I turn progressive scan on I get the pink problems. The component cabel is brand new. Phillips, I believe. I thought the problem was the tv so I took it back and got a new one, but same problem, so I'm assuming the problem is either to DVD player or the cables. I don't have any other HD tv to test the player on or another dvd to test the cables on. Any idea which one it could be or should I just get a new DVD and see if it works? Thanks.

it is a cable problem likely ... though progressive is not over s-video ..

switch the 3 wires around in the component hookup and see if it changes ...

  3. Tried switching the cables around, just warped the colors even more.

You can't get progressive over s-video.

You need to connect the component RGB cables and set the box to progressive in the setup menus.

The cheap players have a catch 22. You can't set the box to progressive unless you are watching the composite menu, and after switching, you can't switch back to composite without using the progressive menus. One workaround is to unplug the box for a few hours and it will reboot as composite.

Also, I don't know about the Mitsubishi WS-55513 but most HDTV monitors have 2 types of component inputs.
The first is 480i (low bandwidth) and the other is "Wide Bandwidth" or "HDTV" for 480p, 1080i (and sometimes 720p).

Make sure you are plugged in to "Wide Band" inputs for 480p. Also you should be using the expensive double shielded component cables (~$18 at Walmart) for progressive connections and keep the cables under 10ft. 480p is 60 frames per second.

  6. All the inputs say 1080i/480p/480i. I tried the cables in all the inputs, same thing. I bought a 2nd cable and it did the same thing. It was another cheap one though. I'll try a little better cable before getting a new dvd. The svid works fine, btw. Don't know what I was thinking about that one.

It all points to the cheap DVD player then. Borrow another and try it.

The cheap vs double shielded cable wouldn't cause that problem. It would show as blurry images.

BTW: all the cheap Chinese players that I have tried have no picture on S-video when progressive scan is selected in the setup menu. Are you sure you have progressive selected?

  8. Stupid question maybe, but when you hooked it up via component video cables, did you change the setup on the DVD player for component output?? Something makes me think that you'll get a reddish hue on video output on component out on players if you don't set it up correctly. Of course I also might just be imagining things.
