dvd's to svcd's

have a cd burner, getting a dvd rom drive, want to make svcd's from dvd's. what is the best and easy to use software? been making vcd's from downloaded .mpg files using nero, but would like the better quality that svcd's have. also can you burn svcd's from dvd's on the fly?

No on the fly. As for best, try reading the guides to the left under Author. OR at:

There's a program DVD2SVCD that's fairly nice (http://dvd2svcd.doom9.net) d/load the software bundle and read the guide at doom9.org.

You'll also need CCE to run it.

to run on my computer or do i need it for running it on my standalone dvd player?

double07, try reading the guides on this site and the other sites that Vejita-sama pointed out......it's very hard for people to explain the entire process in the forums...u need to do some reading first
