    Hello,

Well with the NHL lockout dragging on which pro sport has the most skewed salary structure????

My vote goes to the MLB. I mean Yankees are heading to a 200million dollar PAYROLL! That is insane....

NFL has a salary cap and so does the NBA. NHL is fighting it but will have to adopt it.

    Thoughts???

Not leaving out international sports but I'm only really familiar with North American sports structures

  10. I gotta go with MLB on this one.

But honestly, I think pro athletes make too much in general. Of course, that could be my jealousy talking lol.

NHL is in a bad state right now. With the season being cancelled, or on the verge of anyway, neither side wins. Personally, I think the NFL has the best structure. A salary cap and a luxury tax. The NFL is VERY cyclical. There are always new teams on top. Look at the 49ers and the Cowboys. They were the monsters of the league for years. Now? The 49ers cant tell a football from their asses and Dallas isnt exactly lighting it up. In 5 - 7 years, Im sure they will be back on top while the monsters of today will be sucking hardcore.

But MLB is insane. Case and point .. yankees. I think George should be putting the best team he can on the field, but at what cost? The rest of the league suffers in my opinion. Its boring watching them play against anyone because you have a 95% chance they will win. Playoffs are obviously different but for a 160 game schedule... SNOREEE!

    Anyway, just my two cents.

I think professional boxers get the most money for the least amount of work. I mean look at how much they can get for one fight?

Not enough money in the world since he'd probably hit anyone here once and their neck would be broke. Besides it's only the top boxers making huge amounts of money, I think that's probably one of the most skewed pay scale there is. Free agency and the salary cap work great for keeping something like the Yankees from happening in the NFL but it has also created an enviroment where players are always switching teams which to me detracts from the game.

And that will quickly come to an end, the fine for going over the salary cap increases a certain percentage each year they go over it. I forget exactly what it was but this year the Yankees paid approx. 1/3 of their revenue to pay the salry cap fine.

I agree bazooka, that they're obscenely overpaid. MLB was my answer too. But if it was so easy to play it, more people would be at spring training to try and make the cut.

I've played organized baseball and it's not as easy as it looks or sounds. But is it worth 10 million or even one million a year? .......no way :P

  20. The problem with penalties is a team such as the Yankees can afford it,they need an absolute cap.
Look at Apple...in the early 80's they made a deal with Apple records not to sell music or music players.Well flash-forward to today what's the hottest selling music website and player on the planet?...iTUNES and the iPOD.
Unless you outright ban something a penalty or tax is laughable.

I don't blame the players they should take what they can get, I blame the owners. If you didn't have the likes of Steinbrenner and the other owners of professional teams willing to pay these huge salaries this wouldn't be an issue.

Did you read my post above, that's going to come crashing down around the Yankees heads. It increases by a percentage each year they go over. At some point they are going to be unable to pay the penalty.

I for one, don't think pro athletes make too much. The money comes from somewhere, and if a team owner agrees to pay an athlete X amount of dollars and the athletes says okay, they sign a contract, and life goes on. No one complains about the team owners making too much, and they make more than the athletes!

If you complain about the ticket prices being driven too high, do what I did when the tickets got too high for me -- not go. If enough of us did that, trust me, the ticket prices and salaries would come down.
    Hello.

    Bingo!
Also don't buy the sports packages for TV.I think MLB needs to follow the drafting rules of other pro sports and share the revenue.
