Can you post the IFO related to this VOB? I am curious to see what the DVD shows as info for the video, as ChrissyBoy says, the 1024 width is well outside DVD specs.

I think it is an aspect ratio issue. I think if you open a command prompt and change directory to the folder containing the vob2mpg exe and do:

ffmpeg -i "pathtoyourmpg" -vcodec copy -acodec copy -aspect 16:9 "pathtoanewfile.mpg"

that should sort it...

The command Chrissyboy posted results in many bufferunderflows. But it makes an mpg. However, it isnt playable.... neither is it importable....

Is this maybe because i use wrong codecs, or maybe Sony has made some own-non-standard format ?

Well, the IFO sees it as 720x576 - 16:9, which is as it should be. Where did you retrieve the 1024 pixels value from? It shouldn't be codec related, it's the aspect ratio and how it translates. It's one reason I stayed with tape and DV on my camcorder - but I'm a bit picky that way.

You say you want to get the videos online, what format are you aiming for? Depending, I might have a couple ideas for that.

ChrissyBoy probably has other things you could try. He's pretty busy elsewhere at the moment, so try to be patient.

Ofcourse i am patient; i think ChrissyBoy does a great job at thinking and offering solutions for ppl. Stupid i didnt say that before, should have started with it.

I got the 1024 width from Windows media player 9 from "file" -> "properties". The 720 width movies look like 16:9 movie played on a 4:3 ratio. All ppl are very thin.

I have some aims for this video editing:
- I want to get some clips out of the DVD to put them into small (maybe 320 witdh) mpeg or avi. The type aint so much important, as long as people can play them in windows media player with stereo sound. And ofc size matters; it shoud be smaller so it can be downloaded from the internet. If i am able to get the .VOB into Windows Movie Maker, then i can make clips and export them.
- I even might get involved in video editing and making home-dvd's. In fact, the 8 cm DVD's that come out of my camcorder can hold only 2,4 GB (Dual layer). So that i will have to combine them on normal size DVD's.

Maybe i went too fast by choosing Windows Movie Maker, but it is installed on my pc so it is the easiest start-up way for now.

Now i start editing it in Windows Movie Maker; i have to cut all scenes since the information about the chapters was lost it seems.

Like to get an answer to something that bugs me and i haven't found the fix.

I've always used Anydvd and Recode to rip my DVD to my HDD. Once there i open VOB2MPG 2.3.

When i start the conversion, VOG2MPG immediantely says it's finished and i look in the folder and while there is a file created, it isn't of any size. Now this only happens maybe 1 in every 100 movies, but when it does happen I can't get that movie into 1 VOB to stream to my media extenders. I have tried restarting pc, closing out VOB2MPG , moving the ripped files to another HDD, uninstalling and reinstalling the software but the end result is, some ripped movies won't allow me to create a single VOG with this software.

Question is.............is there a fix or another way or program to get my files into single VOB for media center viewing?

It is because the program can't deduce the bitrate of the audio streams. Drop me an email and i will send you an version where this shouldn't matter.

Hey chris Great work btw on VOB2MPEG 2.3-2.5 works really well but i have one question for you.

When i take VOB2MPEG to create mpegs from my vob sets it puts them into a file that works great with my buffalo media extender but when i try to play them back on my computer using Windows Media Player 11 or even Winamp i have no sound. I can get sound over the media server on the network that goes to my tv but i find it strange i can't get sound when playing them straight on the computer.

Im sure theres some audio codec or something i have to download or maybe something i have to enable to get it to work because i have gotten it once before to play with sound through both windows media player and winamp, but im not really sure what it is.

Do you know what audio type vob2mpeg uses so i can download this format support for my media players? Or does vob2mpeg even matter in this case and the real problem is my ripping method?

I currently use DVD Decrypter to rip the movies to VOB and i use default settings on that software but i use IFO mode and use stream Processing. I always just pull the main movie with only 0x80 - Video - 720X480 NTSC and for audio i just select 0x80 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch or 5ch / English and rip it.

Am i doing something wrong here? Appreciate any help you can give!

It's most probably an installed codec issue. VOB2MPG doesn't make any changes to the audio, so what's in the VOB is what you get (PCM, AC3, MPG, etc.).

Open the MPG in GSpot, it will tell you what the audio format is and should tell you whether you have the proper codec installed.

Hi,

I was amazed at vob2mgp when I found out that I could convert my ripped dvd's to mpeg to play over my Media Center Extender. Unfortunately, though after the first couple of conversions I seem to have run into a problem. Every time that I try to convert a .vob it just tells me "Finished Processing 0 Vobsets". I'm not sure what to do.

I'm using DVD Decrypter to rip the main movie files of a dvd to one .vob file and then Vob2mgp to convert the .vob to a .mpg. Like I said, it worked flawlessly the first couple of times and now every .vob I try to convert gives me the same message. I've tried multiple movies and it's the same for any dvd I try now, so it must be something that I'm doing differently than before but I can't figure out what. DVD Decrypter is creating a video_ts folder and the naming convention of the .vob is correct, so I don't know what's going on.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Try converting one of them to a different drive than the one they are stored on. VOB2MPG expects a DVD drive for source and can't save to that, and apparently also can't save to the source drive, even if it's a hard drive. That's my guess anyway.

I've had similar problems with vob2mpg.

I've found 2 ways around it:
Either try running vob2mpg again immediately after you get the message or
Leave vob2mpg loaded up for about 30secs before starting the conversion

Using above methods I have no probs converting from one HDD to another one.

Thanks for the help, but I seemed to have stumbled upon a solution...I wanted to try DVDFab HD Decrypter but during the installation it said that it is not compatible with DVD4FREE, which I was using to remove any protection. So after uninstalling DVD4FREE I ran DVDFab and then VOB2MPG and everything worked great. I'm assuming that there was a conflict with DVD4FREE and VOB2MPG. Go figure! I've ripped and converted about 20 DVD's in a row now with not a single problem!

By the way, does anyone know if it's possible to convert a 4:3 to 16:9 and if so which program they use? Do you convert the .vob or the .mpg?

Looks like this is the general dumping ground for VOB2MPG, so here goes...

Like others, VOB2MPG worked great on the first couple of movies, perfect tool. Then all of a sudden I received the same symptoms: Finished doing 0 VOBs, errors here and there, gets stuck. Its complaining about not enough storage, but obviously, there's more than enough to go around...for now. The only thing I tried on this one was to use DVDDecrpter in stream mode instead of file mode.

Just a guess - but i think it is having an issue with "VTS_01_PGC_01 - Stream Information.txt" Can you rename it to "PGC_01 - Stream Information.txt"?

Thanks, that did the trick! I'm humming along once again. Now, just to figure out how to set the in/out resolution so everybody doesn't look too skinny... 16:9 is ok, just need 2:35... But that a VirtualDub question...

i never succeeded with vob2mpg. whenever i tried i failed i get the results as=the same as suggested bny tropicub on nov 27. zero files converted.kindly suggest .

Hi there, new poster here, hoping that someone can help...

Like others, I'm getting the same problem that when I run vob2mpg, it converts 0 files in 0 seconds. I've tried the suggestions about running it again immediately after, and leaving it for a while before running, but to no avail . I've even tried several different vob sets in case there was something wrong with one of them, but still no joy. Here's a copy of the log file:

The disc was ripped using DVDDecrypter, I think in IFO mode, extracting the main movie only.

Any ideas?
