Hello,
4 hours to burn???? That sounds more like encoding time to me.
A full single layer 4x disc should take about 15 minutes to burn.
Check the tools section on the left. Not many freeware authroing packages I'm afraid....

yea i know!!!!!
lol the fact is they are already encoded. did it yesterday and now ive gone to burn them to disc and its taking 4 freeking hours to "create & organize" files on powerproducer2!
whats going on lol -
Hi Olivia,
Yoda is right, it might take 4 hours to encode, but it should take an hour or less (depending upon speed selection) to burn. I haven't used PowerProducer, but it sounds like it may be re-encoding your files. Is their an option to "not re-encode"? If so, give it a try.
TMPGEnc DVD Author is more-or-less the standard for authoring, and a lot of people use Nero to burn. Also, check out ImgTool & and ImgTool Burn (ImgTool Burn uses Nero). Personally, I like to create an Image (ISO) file before burning. Some people swear by DVD Decrypter to burn, but its never worker properly for me. -
cool but what are the limitations in the trial - is doesnt seem to say?>
you guys dont know any basic freeware i could use? ive spent hours scouring the net and pretty much cant find anything, was wondering if you could maybe help... -
TMPGEnc DVD Author is free for 30 days. If you have AC3 audio, you might need to obtain their optional plug-in, but you can still use the program (without sound) to do your authoring, and it will turn out okay. I think Nero has a similar trial period too.

An excellent freeware package to author a DVD is DVDAuthorGUI. I know it will run on Windows 98SE, and is reported to also run on ME, 2000 and XP. Click on "Tools" on the left side of this page then do a search on "DVDAuthorGui" and it'll find it for you. The author, Liquid217, also has some guides on his site on how to use DVDAuthorGUI.

Olivia, I'm not familiar with Powerproducer, but it certainly sounds like it's re-encoding. You do know that a 4.7 GB DVD5 is actually about 4485 MB, don't you? (Sorry, you never know). Other than that, maybe a DMA / PIO problem.
Some useful freeware:
Authoring:
DVDauthorGUI, as mentioned. Capable of pretty much anything, but nothing is automated.
Rejig, fairly easy to use. Also a good transcoder.
Burning:
Img Tools Classic. Use to create ISO image of DVD files.
DVDDecrypter. Can burn ISO images, also a great DVD ripper.
Please post back if you have specific questions. Also, how about filling in computer details? It saves time asking about specs. Good luck.

thanks very much,. that is a great program exactly what i am looking for!
cant critisize freeware anyway! great find thanks again xx -
yea the 1st program is super!
yep i think i have that sussed as 4.7gb isnt 4700mb due to a gb being 1024x1024mb if you know what i mean!
thanks to all you guys for your patience youve been soooo helpful! -
couple more q's!
When i go to add a title and select my mpg files they dont show up when i go to browse. Shown file types are only "mpeg elementary stream" .m2v and .m1v
why are my files not being displayed does anyone knoW? -
you can also use batchdemux, from the download page of dvdauthorgui. It is a simple frontend to mpgtx and bbdemux.
