  1. Here's the jist of it: when I try to capture (no matter what program I'm using but I have tried with the normal ATI software, VirtualDub and WMM) the image comes out all wrong.

Here's a small clip showing the problem: http://www.sinzar.net/clip.avi (uses xvid codec)

Now, I've captured before without any problems. I just bought an RF Adapter so I could capture with audio because my capture card (ATI TV Wonder VE) doesn't have composite audio in. As you can see this capturing is for video games. The RF adapter is hooked up into cable in and is set to channel 3 and so is the capture program. I've tried changing it, and the adapter to channel 4, but the problem still persists. I was thinking maybe it was the video card, but I've captured TV through the cable in before and not had any problems.

Before I bought the RF Adapter I tried hooking the PS2 up through a VCR and into the computer so the VCR would be like the RF adapter, and the results were the exact same. I didn't think much of it because the VCR was very old and stored in a cold back room, so I assumed it was just a junky VCR.

I've tested the RF Adapter with the TV thinking that may be the problem, but no dice. So I'm kind of out of ideas.

My computer's a piece of crap but I don't think thats the problem

I don't know what your problem looks like as I can't view the clip (I only use real video modes, DV avi and DVD compliant mpeg2 so don't have any codecs for other dodgy formats). However, it appears you are trying to capture via an RF modulator and degrading the picture enormously before you start. You say that you can't capture sound as your TV card doesn't have sound in only video. Join the club, very few of them do, some capture cards might but very few TV cards. You connect your sound to the Line in on your sound card and your video to either composite or S-Video in on the TV card.

In your capturing software you select what inputs you want to capture from. Suggest you have a look at LordSmurfs pages at www.digitalfaq.com for everything you want to know about capturing with ATI and other cards.

  4. Hmmm so I guess this isn't a capturing problem but rather an audio problem. I've tried hooking the composite cables up into the line in but still wouldn't get audio so I just assumed my capture card stunk. Guess I'll mosey on over to the audio board then.

    Thanks for the help

  5. Your sound card has at least two audio inputs (line in and microphone). You have to make sure the correct one is selected when you record.
