I have an external (USB 2) Pioneer 108 that work fine on an older PC but works very erratically on my newer Sony Vaio. Both PC's are running XP SP2. The Sony PC will burn a DVD just fine and sometimes if I try to burn the exact same DVD it will simply stop. Doesn't matter what program I use to burn (Nero, Decrypter) it varies from 1% on up to 90% before the light goes out and just stops.
The other setup is rock solid so I'm pretty sure the burner and the media is ok. Since my Sony PC has the bigger hard drive and where I do all of my video editing, I'd like to burn there if I could. Please help me solve this mystery.
Thanks,
seandvd

For giggles I booted up in the safe mode and have been burning ever since. Some day I'll figure it out but at least it seems to be working.
