VCD's not working - Black Screen

just got a dvd player (hitachi p415 - compatible on list)...
i use tmpgenc to convert my divx movies or clips to videocd ntsc. then i use nero 5.5.5.1, select video cd, select iso1, ntsc, track at once, and burn.
i fooled around many times and i must have made about 5 coasters and rewrote about 50 times on my cd-rws...
when i pop the "vcd" into my player, it loads, displays vcd1.1 in top left corner, and play NOTHING... black screen EVERY TIME... with a slight flicker every 10 sec.

i have tried many possibilities including the panasonic encoder and vcdgui to burn... same results.

win2k, hp9210i, gigastorage and maxell cdr's and cdrw's.

Do you insert your .mpg file into the mpegav directory ??
You have to double click mpegav and then drag your .mpg file into it. Otherwise it will not work. Secondly, have you tried disc-at-once in stead of track-at-once ? Thirdly, when you burn track-at-once, do you close the session ?
