ES-36v, we never got that one in the US. AFAIK the ES-36v was the VHS version of the ES-16(which we also didn't get in the US). In '07 when all devices(that contained a tuner) in the US were required to go digital, we got the flawed EZ series. While Canada was still able to get the better ES series. The ES-16/36v were basically the '06 US ES-15/35v which were solid products. I believe the Canadian versions had the ability to play Divx titles while the US versions did not.
AFA your remote, $65 seems a little steep. Here's a thread with links talking about replacement Panasonic remotes. I believe $30(+shipping) was a mentioned price, but I'm not sure if they will ship to Canada.

Also the EZ-48v does have FR but not for copying from a VHS. Another problem with the EZ-48v is you cannot route the VHS signal out of the machine, go through a filter, and back into the DVD side, all the ES combos allowed this. Lastly the EZ series do NOT have the handy shorten title function with RAM discs. IMO shorten title is one of the big advantages of using RAM discs and why they dropped it on the EZ series is beyond me! -
Did someone unstick this thread? I could have swarn it was a sticky thread the other day?
Now it's down with the rest of the posts... -
Too many people were confused by this thread.
This thread is very outdated, having been created for Panasonic machines made and used in 2002-2005(early), and much of it does not apply to machines made and used in (late)2005-2010. It was something I had stickied back in 2005, but it doesn't need to be a sticky anymore. We've all moved on.
This doesn't need to be a sticky anymore than the JVC "loading" threads that concerned DVD recorders from 2004-2005.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
