Looks like I may be coming to the states in a couple of months. Work related.
Is detroit is as bad as it is portrayed in the media. I will be in that area. Warren to be exact. Isn't that where Dr. Gee is from. Perhaps he could give me some tips on where to avoid and what to see in my spare time.

It is true that Detroit is a big and very old city. Yes, there are some parts that are gutted and suffer urban blight. However, if you will be living in Warren, Mich., it is a suburb, and has better living conditions. I lived in the proverbial "inner city", and worked in Warren, so I have seen both sides. I think the girls will love your accent, so lay it on thick. Just don't do it around the guys, though, they'll think you're a "poof". Keep us posted and tell Yoda313 to hook you up when you arrive.
Hello. -
Thanks TK, if I do come which looks likely at the moment it is to support a course that we run at TACOM. So is there much to do/sights to see in that area.
-
I think so. I can give you what I like about it, but if you want "hot skinny" on the most recent stuff going on there (I haven't been home in a couple of years), get with Yoda313. He's the one who keeps me in the loop while I'm overseas.
Hello. -
I thought you'd only just moved house, Craig. Bored already? :P
-
I did not realise that yoda313 was located there. I am sure it will not be long before he pops in here.

Hello,
Here's a link from wwj radio:
http://zart.fimc.net/els/elsSignupFrm.asp?newmember=1
Sign up and it has a list of all the upcoming events..
Are you looking at june??? If so theres the freedom fireworks festival at the end of the month (Detroit River). Plenty of concerts in the summer too.
There's Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills with plenty of shopping. I'll have too look them up for you but there are places to rock climb and other varied things like that.
Give me a time frame and we can figure out what'll be available.
Too bad you weren't coming now... There's the North American International Auto Show and the Plymouth Ice Festival in the next few weeks....
Kevin
EDIT - There's also Frankenmuth - a "german town" in Michigan just a short drive from the metro area. Plenty of themed touristy fun stuff thereAnd in the spring summer there's Kensington park, metro beach, and more...

Don't forget to visit the FORD Museum. You might also notice many major streets are REALY WIDE. You can assume it's spaced for us fat a**ed Americans, but honestly it's for the trucks. Check out the trailers and the number of wheels some of them have. I saw a flat bed that had like 8 axles. It was obviously for carrying a lot of weight. My question is HOW THE HECK DO YOU TURN?!!!!! Maybe they aren't really axled and they are independent turning somehow, but DAMN!!! Use a train.
EDIT: fixed sp. error -

I'm about an hour West in Ann Arbor. Let me know when and if you get more details.I would be glad to help you out with your visit. Shit,I might even have to get you a lap dance or 2
BTW-Sorry to hear you might have to come visit us.I met some girls once who said they were going to Detroit for Spring Break.WTF!!!???Don't worry, the suburbs are quite nice and quite safe. You wont have to venture in side the city limits and it is an easy drive from the airport. -
I have always fancied visiting the states particularly New York, just never got round to it. NY does not look to far on the map. What would the logistics be for a day trip or a 1 night stop over. Feasible or forget about it.
-
Not quite a 1 day trip. If you were in Buffalo, even that would be skating as too far for a 1 day. Niagara Falls?.....More feasable. Make sure you have your passport, birth cirtificate, and driver's license/certificate. Very worthwhile if you decide to visit for a day. I suggest leaving early in the morning, plan where you want to stay the night and leave early after noon of the day you need to head back.
-
Ever notice the members in Michigan don't state that in "Location".
Seriously,I hope you have a safe trip and a good time here in the states Craig.
