just converted a 681meg avi film to mpeg2 using tmpgenc.when i go to tmpgencdvd author it tells me i cant use 23.976fps for dvd.if i re encode using 25fps for pal i get a unstable picture like a pause every second.using 23.976fps gives a perfectly smooth run.i tried various settings in tmpgenc, but if using 25fps i still get unstable preview.either way i cannot use tmpgencdvd author unless i re encode to 25fps. thanks for any advise

You have to include teh 3:2 pulldown setting when you encode to be able to use 23.976.

As Forum Troll said, do this:
1. Set the Encode Mode to 3:2 pulldown when playback
2. Set the Frame Rate to 23.976fps (internally 29.97 fps)
TMPGEnc DVD Author should now accept your file.If in doubt, Google it. -
thanks for replies, done as u suggested but now getting sampling rate is not permitted.thanks
-
hi,i used virtual dub for the audio and left it at no change at 48k.
-
hi again,i just resized the reso to 720x480 and is now accepted in dvd author.thanks again
-
it comes up" the sampling rate is not permitted with selected mpeg2 level.>sampling rate=width*height*framerate." my settings are exactly as above only i using constant bitrate cbr,7000bps

i've never had this problem before.i cant understand why using 25fps causes video pauses.the only way i can get it to convert is if i use the settings given using encode dropdown,is to drop the reso to 720x480

thanks, thats the way i had it to get it convert, thanks again for your help.
u know me,i like free tv -
No problem
FWIW, while you're reading, learning and experimenting, you may find my AVI to DVD guide useful:
http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm
<note to self>
As soon as you open TMPGEnc, load your file, then load your template. DVD (PAL).mcf if you have a PAL source (25fps), or DVD (NTSC).mcf if you have an NTSC source (23.976fps or 29.976fpd). Then change just the settings you need to change, and leave everything else as-is. I'd also suggest that you read What is DVD (top left), and familiarize yourself with a few of the finer points of what you need to know if converting to DVD. This place is your video bible - read it at every opportunityIf in doubt, Google it. -
One more thing:
This process is called encoding, and we're using TMPGEnc Plus. Authoring and TMPGEnc DVD Author is a whole different kettle of fish altogether. I was unable to help much for quite a few posts because I couldn't work out what error you were getting (since I assumed you were using TMPGEnc DVD Author and I had never heard of that error with that program before), and since you couldn't or wouldn't post a screen capture, I was unable to discover this earlier until it suddenyl dawned on me. Please keep in mind for future posts that we can't see your screen from here, and the more info you provide us with, the quicker you'll get the answer you needIf in doubt, Google it. -
ok thanks,i have read your guide along with other guides before.i have used both tmpgenc and dvd author before without problems.i always used pal before and 25fps.seems on this occasion it caused pauses in the video.now i done it with your help and ntsc its now encoding and soon be ready for authoring in dvdauthor.thanks

just downloaded it and this what i got -- File : 700 MB (700 MB), duration: 1:19:27, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 52 %
Video : 619 MB, 1090 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 576*304 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
Audio : 80 MB, 141 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported. -

23.976 fps - the frame rate - if this is 25fps, you have PAL. If it's 23.976fps or 29.976fps you have NTSC.
576*304 (16:9) - the frame size and aspect ratio
XVID = XVID Mpeg-4 - the codec used to decompress it
141 Kbps - the audio bitrate used - if it's not a multiple of 32, then chances are it's VBR audio
48000 Hz - the frequency of the audio
2 channels - mono is 1 channel, stereo is 2 channels, surround sound is 6 channels
0x55 = MPEG Layer-3 - MP3 audio - a lot of times this is VBR audio, so check the audio bitrate
If you find out you have VBR MP3 audio, extract the audio to WAV using the guide here and then when you get into TMPGEnc, load your AVI as your video source, then manually load the WAV file as your audio source - TMPGEnc often struggles with VBR MP3 audio and causes all sorts of problemsIf in doubt, Google it. -
i always use virtual dub for the audio.i managed to do it and author it aswell with your help.thanks again
