What media is the most widely used? miniDV tape, mini dvd or something else (sorry if I used the wrong words, just not sure what to buy.) Thanks. I don't want something too proprietary.

You could buy a MiniDV they are okay and can quickly connect to the PC for downloading the media faster. Some complanies make even cheaper ones than the big companies.Best Regards,
