    On the Options tab, there is a setting for 'Profile'. I've always been selecting the DVD one since I'm most interested in burning DVDs, but what internal settings does this actually change?

    It sets some additional internal encoding options needed for that particular format, i.e. DVD adds NAV packets, SVCD adds scan packets, etc. as well as the ratecontrol buffer size.
