  1. What’s the difference between the DVD Decrypter 3.5.0.0 and DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15? Which one is better to copy a DVD movie?

  2. two very different programs.....

You can transcode dual layer discs with DVDshrink to fit on a single layer disc, and also use it to rip DVDs. Decrypter is mainly for simply ripping and burning discs. Both remove copyright protections also. If the disc you are copying is a single layer disc, you can choose to simply rip the disc as an ISO image with Decrypter then burn with Decrypter.

    Hello,

    Yep steve2713 is right.

Dvddecrypter - rip any dvd to harddrive. Use it to rip and burn to dual layer media. Rip and burn single layer discs.

Dvdshrink - rip and transcode dual layer discs to fit single layer discs. If it's single layer will simply remove protection like dvd decrypter does (but dvd decrypter DOES NOT transcode to a smaller size).

    They compliment each other's shortfalls.

  8. Downloading done! One more question. Do your guys know how many GB the hard drive including the workspace should have to backup one movie by using the DVD shrink? My PC has 20 GB left. In addition, is Memory 128 ok? Thanks a lot.

  9. Should be just enough. Full rip for Dual layer about 8.5G and 4.4G for compression and few gigs for window operation. Should be OK.

Decrypter is a requirement to use DVDShrink. Go to the DL page, it tells you what you need. W/o it, you will not use Shrink.

You need something over 4.35 GB to use DVDShrink. The workinfg files are the final output files.

If you use Decrypter by itself, it will give you up to 8GB of derypted, uncompressed files. Using Decrypter first takes XX minutes, then Shrink on those files will take XX minutes. Running Shrink at the get go will take more like XXX, just a little longer than Decrypting alone, but not nearly as long as running both programs consecutively will.

Also, I get more failures with Decryptor alone than with it under Shrink, something I can't explain. Just restart Decrypter a couple times, fail again, say to hell with it, Shrink, and all's well. Go figure.

    Cheers,

    George

DVDDecrypter is not a formal requirement for DVDShrink - in fact, DVDShrink can rip and transcode all on it's lonesome. When you come to burn however, you need burning software, and you can use any one of DVDDecrypter, Nero or CopyToDVD "automatically" after the shrinking is done, or you can use your own favorite burning software "manually". I see DVDDecrypter as an optional extra, and a good one at that
    If in doubt, Google it.

    jimmalenko,

    You're right.

I remembered reading that, but after checking, see that I read it about autoshrinkiso.

    My mistake.

    Cheers,

    George

Oh, OK. I knew autoshrinkiso used DVDShrink, but I wasn't sure what it used to make the ISO - I assumed it just used a CLI exe or something.
    If in doubt, Google it.
