I'm just curious how people like their Dual Layer Burners at this point. Has everything gone smoothly for you? How often do you actually burn DL discs. Do you order your media online? Just basic everyday use questions.

I've had mine for over a month. I've only burned one DVD. Haven't bought any DL yet. I'm not worthy of my membership here.

How about (standalone) DVD Player compatability. And brands that just won't play the DL discs?

You're not going to find too many people who have burned alot of DL discs for 2 reasons:

    1. they're still expensive - prices have dropped a little, but not much
    2. they're currently available only in the +R format (cuts down on alot of sales)

There is a third reason that Lordsmurf pointed out

    30% compatibility in stand-alone players.

Yeah, but when searching for "Real Life DVD+R DL results" it didn't turn up a whole lot of results.

  16. Bought 10, burn't 7. Using DVD Decrypter ISO read, ISO Write. Bitset to DVD-ROM. Work fine on my player but not on my mates. I think the Bitsetting increases compatibility alot but its still not that good.

Won't buy any more til the price drops alot!

Have a NEC2500@2510 and a NEC 3500. Only burned one DL (Ridata) on the NEC2500 as a test. It works fine on all my DVD rom devices on the PC's but had probm at the layer break on my Denon 2910 DVD Player. DL media is still too much $$$. Dont really burn much DL since I rip my DVD's to HD's and view from there on my HTPC now.

I've had my Pioneer 108 since September and I've burned about 20 double layer disks so far. I've used Verbatim and Ritek and burned with both Nero and DVD Decrypter. They all work flawlessly on all 3 of my players. I've read bad things about the Riteks, but I have had no problems with them. I prefer the Verbatims for the simple fact that they burn at 4x instead of 2.4x. (About 25 minutes instead of 40.)

I was very skeptical about double layer recordable DVDs. A year ago, I would have bet anything that they would never actually come to be. Now, I am completely blown away by how well these things work - at least for me. I read lots of bad things about compatibility, but I haven't experienced any of those problems.

The only drawback - and it's a big one - is the price. They have already come down to about half what they were in September, but they're still quite pricey.

I thought that my backups using Nero Recode looked good, but now that I've made a few double layer ones, those compressed ones are really starting to look bad. I can harly wait for these things to get more affordable so I can use them more.
