  1. I just set up a Linksys wireless system so I can connect my laptop while I'm on the couch. I've heard folks saying that computers connected to a wireless system are easier to get into. Also, should I be concerned about people stealing my connection and sucking off bandwidth?

    Hello,

I just recently got a wireless router and asked a similar question:

Just set your WEP encryption and the Mac address and this should help.

But we also just had a thread indicating that you could use the IP/bandwidth theft as a defense if sued for downloading. I've now removed all protection from my wireless router.

Of course the argument doesn't work so well if they subpoena your computer and find bootleg screeners and such on your hard drive Would be pretty embarrasing if you had alot of porn on there too.

There's nothing for them to find. Especially with the script that will accept any password, and if not mine, delete all items withing certain directories.

    See above.

Besides, there's nothing illegal about (most) porn, and I don't get embarrased. Unless of course they bust down my door while I was....

Actually, not really. Since becoming a software developer many years ago, my take on software piracy has hardened considerably. I have no need to download music, since all I listen to is 80's music, and I've had since the 80's to purchase all the CDs I need, and don't even use those. Most of the time, I just listen to the strreaming 80's music on Musicmatch. My entire DVD collection is less than 60 discs, and I don't see the need to back those up, as none of them has ever been played more than 3 times. If I have the urge to see a new release, I might rent it, but if I know I really want it, I'll just go buy it. I never to to the theater, at least not since 1985, so by the time a movie hits DVD, I already know if I want it or not. The only thing that ever gets backed up is my daughter's movies, as she is very hard on the discs.

Now, the porn is another issue entirely!

I was just kidding. And yeah, I was mostly referring to porn and burying stuff in the backyard.
