No NTL around here are a ******* joke. I phoned BT this morning and asked them to register the line as I only need it for ADSL and if it can't be used for that I'm not gonna have it at all, I was told it would be done in about an hour - that was at about 10:30 this morning and its still not done. What would happen if I was trying to activate BTOpenworld ? I'll bet they'd get it done in minutes. I find this endemic of this ******* country.

EDIT - They've just told me it may take 24hrs, but they don't really know. Sometimes I wonder why I ******* bother.

EDIT2 - I've just been on BT website and when I put the number in it says the local exchange has not been enabled for broadband. I'm at boiling point here.

FYI - If you want to find out how light you want your laptop, go to the store and grab a 2 liter bottle of soda or something. carry that around the store for 2 hours. If you feel comfortable with it, anything under 2.5lbs. would be okay.

My suggestion, Laptops suck because they are so extremely overpriced. I can build 2 or 3 desktops for the same cost.

  3. Try carrying a desktop around the store under your arm for a couple of hours though

I've done that! Walk into the store, don't get a cart. Grab the tower I want and place all the parts on the box while carrying it on it's side. After placing a Mobo, Powersupply, Cables, and fans on it in my arms, I usually get a representative ask me, "Do you need help looking for anything?" to Which I'd reply, "Where's a cart?"
