I have archived just in case of such an eventuality. The delights of a DVD burner. :P

You guys have to pay for the amount of downloading you do? I have 1Mbps DSL, I get raped in the Tookas at $40 a month. But I download and upload, & surf as much as I want. I had unlimited usage for $6 a month with 56k phone line through bluefrog a few years ago.

Back in Rochester, NY I got 5Mbps through RoadRunner cable with unlimited usage for $32 a month. That was awesome. Vegas has little competition with COX and they rape you 8 ways you never knew existed with their crappy service & outrageous prices.

  4. Depends on the package you have, there are 2 basic types, one is unlimited so you pay your monthly fee and can download all you like. The other is capped so you have a maximum you can download a month. The capped packages are obviously usually cheaoer than the uncapped ones.

They're screwing your back end with a diesel tailpipe over those packages. I know the conversion rates. Your capped packages are about the same as my unlimited package. Your ISPs got you all as their S&M b**ches. How do you put up with it?

Of course you also have to pay a regular fee to OWN your own television. I still think that's a raping on it's own.

Cobra was saying that, for example, Taiyo Yuden DVD-R costs three times as much as Ritek there

  8. Not quite 3 times, I just paid £60 for 100 full face printable TY's, Riteks come in packs of 25 for £6.50. Still the TY's are damned expensive.

I'll be back onto ******* dialup at this rate

I've just got on to BT. Bloody hell there's an ordeal. I told them that the ISP can't find my phone number as it is new - BT said yes thats correct it will take some time ! Then I'm put on hold while she phones some engineer, then returns to me accompanied by a high pitch whistling sound coming down the phone. I'm sat here holding the phone away from my ear as she shouts to try and get heard over the din, whistling away in the background. The upshot is it'll be cleared, or whatever, in about an hour.

I should be on broadband next week hopefully.

Solo 500. Its about all I can afford bearing in mind the BT line rental is £10 a month and this is £24. I'm not getting suckered into a limited service either, its uncapped or nowt for me.

It'll be nice getting my router up and going again.

No - I had a borrow of one for a while. I've just got my desktop now.

    So any recommendations ?

  19. I bought one a few months a go, Systemax Centrino 1.7, 1gb ram, 80gb hd all the usual.

I bought it from Simply Computers (I think they are on your list though).

I sold it two months later cause I never used it, silly impulse buy. I paid £1400 for it and sold it on for £850

  20. You mad bastard. I have no intention of spending that much on a laptop. I was looking at a few yesterday in the £700 range.

I had a look at this, seems to be good enough for what I want.

  21. Big big for a lappers though, not really the sort of thing you would want to cart around.

I would spend the money on upgrading the desktop.

  22. For £650 I could build a new desktop rather than upgrade one.

This is similar but lighter. How light should these things be ?

  23. That looks better, my old one was 2.8kg, I think that is the average sort of weight for a Centrino.

  24. This may be all academic as BT have still not registered my line. Tossers.

Can I just drop this in (it may be too late if you've already ordered, but it's worth mentioning to others who are looking for a UK ADSL provider)

    Taken from site above
Eclipse Internet is offering a free month of speed boosting to new FLEX Broadband customers during January.

The free month of flexing will allow you to take advantage of faster broadband speeds at a fraction of the normal price – enabling you, for example, to benefit from the FLEX Home 1000 product for the price of FLEX Home 250.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The offer of free flexing is available to new FLEX Broadband customers throughout January 2005
New FLEX customers must sign up between 1st Jan and 31st Jan 2005 to be eligible
