  1. Anyone know a good tool to do this? Ive tried Besweet (w/ AC3Machine), but I guess Besweet dosnt handle AC3s anymore... I also tried ffmpeggui but Im pretty sure its strictly for WAV to AC3 conversion as I get an invalide codec error. Any suggestions?

The reason I wanna do this is to make a DVD with a 5.1 audio track AND a 2.0 audio track.

    Hello,

    ????????

Besweet still does ac3 files. And you don't have to convert 5.1 to 2.0 because your dvd player will automatically downconvert it to 2.0 stereo if it's the dolby digital track (dts HAS to have a DTS decoder to playback).

The only reason to convert to 2.0 is to save space but reencoding the 5.1 track to a lower bitrate would also work. But ac3 is already compressed so the savings would be limited.

ffmpeg works fine here as should the GUI. Guess it is just the version of ffmpeg that you are running. Besweet I guess would do a better downmix though.

Thats what I was thinking too... the ultimate result I was hoping for was being able to choose 5.1 or 2.0 in the menu... Ive seen it done on other DVDs. You think this option usually just switches the way the player handles the track?

no - it is two tracks .. but you really dont need to do it .. you can just switch your receiver to stereo instead

  6. Cool. One last question... what if a DVD player dosnt suport Dolby Digital. Will it downmix it to 2.0? Im just thinking if I take my DVD to a friends house or something and the DVD player is a cheapo one. Will it have sound? Seems like if your gonna build something that reads 5.1 and outputs 2.0, might as well let it simply output 5.1 as well. Which leads me to beleave that non-dolby digital players would need a 2.0 track in order to play sound.
