  1. Happy New Year to all:

I have considerable number of old important photos on slides which can be viewed on the wall/screen by using a slide projector. I want to convert them into dvd media to watch them on tv screen by using a dvd player.

I will appreciate if someone can tell me how do I go about it. What software I need to do it.

I have hp photo scanner 1000 and hp photosmart 7150 printer. I have Windows XP SP2.

Any video editing application will create a slide show. Depending on the software you can output it to MPEG-2 and then author the DVD. Or output it to AVI, convert it to MPEG-2, then author the DVD.

  3. Creating the slideshow from files is easy, many ways to do it, as noted.

Digitizing the existing physical slides is another problem. Scanners require a special backlit attachment for slides, I have never done this so have no idea of quality. If negatives still available, or even if not, a photo shop will have better equipment to do this and are usually reasonably priced.

  4. Nelson37,

You have got me right. I am talking about physical slides. I will visit our local photo shops to find out if they can help me to covert the photos on physical slides onto dvd media.

Many thanks to all of you.

You can also buy a scanner that takes slides, scan them yourself then convert to DVD.

If you have a lot of slides and or film, you might consider a Film Scanner like this Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual IV, 3200dpi, 35mm, Film Scanner

I have had poor results trying to scan negatives with a HP scanjet 6200C. I have seen some newer scanners with the mirror/holder built into the lid. I imagine that setup may work well.

You could also just video tape a manual slide show. You could still frame or video it from that point and you could get very good quality if you use a good quality camera and limit the outside light source...IE a dark room
