Some artists just have terrible singing. But have nice background music that I would like to hear.
Is it possible to isolate the 2?

Thanks. But does not work very well. Sounds like a cellphone with poor reception mixed with TransFormer voices mixed with talking underwater.

Sorry, but that is not really possible unless the singing is in one channel and music in the other. Some programs will say they can but you'll find it can't be done adequately. It's kinda like cream in coffee.... once in, you can't get it out. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you'll just be chasing a rainbow.

There are a couple of DX filters like the one posted above. How well they work depends entirley on how the song was mixed. If the vocals are mixed purely up center, as most are, and there are no vocal effects then the vocals can generally be removed completely. But any other instrument or effect that is mixed in the center will also be lost or altered.
Also by nature of how these filters work, it makes the audio mono. Try the winamp one and just play various songs. You'll find that some come out perfectly, albeit in mono. Rap seems to work very well.
