  1. Here is what I am trying to accomplish

I have a MPEG Transport Stream file that was captured from a HD stream and feed in to my computer in a .TS file. My assumption is the file has the Dolby 5.1 format in the stream.

I have converted the file to an MPEG with HDTVtoMPEG2. I am then trying to author a DVD with Ulead Video Studio 8 with the Dolby Digital Plug-In installed.

Any suggestions or ideas on what to do or what software to use to maintain the Dolby 5.1 Sound?

  2. Use ProjectX to demultiplex the ts file. Then you will see if there is an AC3 stream. But you can't use 'normal' authoring software as the resolution is probably not DVD compliant...
Normal DVD players cannot show HDTV resolutions. You can reencode the video to 720x480 (or 720x576 if it is PAL) and use this together with the ac3 file to create a 'normal' DVD.

  3. Thanks for the info. I was able to to demux the audio from the TS file.

The stream in the AC3 stream shows up as
    Audio:AC-3, CM, 3/2lfe(5.1), cm-3.0dB, sm-3dB, 48000Hz, 384kbps

What software will allow me to author the data and keep the stream in DD5.1 Ulead (w/plugin) will allow me to author in DD2.0 only.

I should be able to demux the audio and video re-encode the video and re-insert the audio, using a wide array of utilities. Has anyone found an easier way of doing this. Starting with a 1280x720/60fps stream is a real pain.

it has to be dvd compliant -- i.e. you have to re-encode it .

I was hoping to find a utility that had simpler process. If I use Ulead Video Studio 8 it will do everything except it will only put the file back to DD2/0 instead of 5.1.

that's because ulead transcodes the video stream when you import it. As has been said, an HD video stream is not acceptable for DVD purposes. You're going to have to re-encode the stream to 720x480 (or 576 if it's PAL) and 29.97 (or 25 if PAL) frames/second.

A dedicated mpeg encoder such as cinema craft, tmpgenc, mainconcept etc will do a better job at that than video studio.
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl
