I got a PNY Attache 256mb USB thumb drive. It said no drivers were needed for ME or XP for it to work. This thing works fine on my XP laptop but it doesnt work on the ME desktop. It recognizes it but says the NTKERN.vxd couldnt load the device driver. I emailed pNY support but they are slow. They told me to delete the USB device in device manager then unplug the device then replug it backin. Then it saysa USB device found then prompts a new window saying it cant find USBNTMAP.sys which that file is located in c:\windows\. after pinting it in the right direction, the window closes. I go back into deivce manager and checking out the USB device it shows the same error as when i began - "NTKERN could not load device driver. getting pissed here.

no, and that shouldnt matter cause my laptop has 1.1 ports and it works fine on it.

just go to the pny website, there should be some drivers on there that you can download and install that will make it work, like you have to do with win 98. I'm not sure why your having that error in ME but hopefully this will fix it.

He's right. 98, ME do require drivers, just as my own Sandisk Cruzer is auto recognized under 2k, but will not work under 98.
Their site says not required for ME, etc, but 98, ME are not that good with USB, either 1.1 or 2.0.
DL and try from here:
http://www.pny.com/support/drivers/?prod=attache
I don't think ntkern is integral to 98 or ME (after all, NTkern? ), so it is probably part of the install pkg.
Besides, what's to lose?

me is garbage. Any PC I have ever worked on that had ME got quickly re-loaded with 98 or 2000.

I have a 128mb stick (mini cruser) on my Win 98 Gold system.
First, you have to have all the necessary and proper drivers for your given
motherboard, and then..
Second, you have to have USB drivers installed for your given OS version.
If you have a hub, then drivers would be installed for this little guy too.
Once I installed an el-cheapo 4-port-hub, it required some misc drivers from
my win98 cd disk.
I guess that every i/o connections has to have a memory address assigned
to it (makes sense) and since every port i/o has memory address to address
This thumb drive is USB 1 and 2 ready.
