Many times I make multiple copies of my DVD projects - for this, I use ULead's Copy untility - that came with my Ulead software - Now, I don't copy it to my hard drive - I do it direct to DVD - but I only have one cd/dvd drive - so my question is - does it copy to my hard drive somewhere or does it take whatever it copies and put it on my dvd? leaving nothing behind? I don't want stuff lingering on my hard drive if it's not needed - but I have no idea how to find out if it does or not. Any ideas?

It creates a temp image on your hard drive, then after the burn is completed, its deleted off your drive. I would recommend that you also defrag your drive every week or so. Hope this helps.
