I am just getting into svcd. Can you help me?

I use premiere to edit my videos. I am to put them onto svcd.
Is it best to capture at 720*540 and then convert it to svcd resolution or is it best
to capture straight to svcd resolution? and then there is no conversion.

Would you get better quality from using the conversion method? Would it take longer?
    I use TMPGenc.
Also the latest version has 30 day limit...but you cannot purchase...anyway around this??

    Many thanks

  2. jasonopo,

I'm new at SVCD too. However, I would suggest, if you can just capture at SVCD resolution and be able to burn and playback the SVCD on the standalone DVD, why not? If I were you, I would use a CD-RW to try it first. If the result is acceptable, then burn the final one onto the CD-R.

Although, the How To section did say you CANNOT just simply capture clip without re-encoding but what harm would there be?

For the question in regarding extending the TMPGEnc. go to the following, there they have some discussions that I think it may be helpful to you.

  3. The general feeling is that it is "best" to generate the highest possible capture you can, and then re-size etc. as necessary.

However, a fair amount of your encoding time is spend resizing. And there's no need to capture above ???x480. So in the end it's just easier to capture at 480x480.

I'm going to assume you're using TMPGenc.

You can save more time by:

    1) using an external audio encoder (eg. tooLame).
    2) load SVCD template, click on settings, advance. Changer arrange method to center (don't need to resize, captured source is already 480x480)
