I've been Googling with no luck - does such a beast exist?.... a Panther utility that will display the media code for any given +/- R disc? I've got something on my PC, but would kill to have something on my 17" Powerbook.

    Thanks

Maybe I asked the wrong question - I downloaded this utility, but it doesn't seem to list the manufacturer code - does this little app do this or do i need something else?

    Thanks

  4. This should show the lead-in info. This disk was manufactured by Ritek.

okay thanks for the info - i guess the 2 discs that i tried had very little disc info - it does appear that this app truncates the manufacturer data name a fair amount - if I recall the app on my pc listed more info.

  6. What I've resorted to is to download the Manufacturers Data Base for DVD Identifier from CD-Freaks <<http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com>>and opening it in Text-Edit, then use DVD Media Inspector to read the code number which I look up on the list. Not perfect, but it works.

Of course the manufactuer information is only useful if you have a sense of which makers are producing reliable discs.

Thanks for the link to the manufacturer codes - good info, but a bit of a PIA. I'm very surprised that someone hasn't written an app like DVD Identifier for the MAC - that's the app I use on my PC and it works great.

I really wanted to have something on my Powerbook - I'll go with DVD Media Inspector if that's all that's out there I guess.

Does anyone know if I can run something like DVD Identifier in OS X running Virtual PC? or would the drive not be recognized. Virtual PC seems to be so hit and miss with some apps.
