I've been working on a project to convert a long out of print concert laserdisc to dvd. I've managed to capture a nice DV avi file through a Canon Elura 60.

My authoring program of choice is Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2.5SE. It came with my burner and I like the way it creates menus. I was able to create a dvd with Ulead DMF 2.5 from the DV avi with LPCM audio just fine. But I would like to get the best video quality possible.

I can get better quality with Quenc than the internal mpeg2 converter in Ulead DMF 2.5. At least to my eyes. Since the laserdisc is only 1 hour long, I want to keep that audio as LPCM wav. Ulead DMF will only work with a muxed mpeg. Also, it does not support ac3, which would be my second audio choice.

So, is there any way to mux m2v video and wav audio files? Or am I stuck with mp2 audio and the m2v created with Quenc? I there any way to get Ulead DMF 2.5 to acceptac3 audio?

    Thanks,

    Andy

I have not tried this, but I believe TMPGEnc should be able to mux your files to MPEG2. Use the MPEG Tools feature from the FILE pulldown. (At least that's what I do when I want to mux video & AC3 audio.)

FYI: The newer Ulead products support AC3, but the latest version of DMF is buggy, even with the updates. So If your MPEG2 file with LCPM audio isn't too big, I'd continue to the version of DMF you already have.

    Good Luck!

    Hello,

I think I did that with tmpgenc. I made a short music video and added the wav from a cd rip. It SHOULD work without a glitch. Give it a try.

Tmpgenc will work with ac3 and mp2, but not wav. With all of the freeware and payware tools out there, why do none support muxing with wav audio considering that LPCM is part of the NTSC dvd standard while mp2 is not. I realize that mp2 generally works fine, but there are times when I'd rather not use it.

Oh, well. Back to the drawing board.

  5. mux wav into mpg seems only possible with cbr mpv, not vbr.

I suggest not using Ulead then - TDA and DVDAuthorGUI should work nicely with elementary streams (at least with AC3). DVDAuthorGUI is free, TDA has a 30 day trial.
