    Hi,
Files encoded as MPEG-1, play fine on my Windows 2000 machine. On my XP machine they plays ok unless I try to skip ahead or backward. If I try to change the location, the player will show a frame of the movie at that point, but the picture no longer advances, however the timer keeps advancing like there's nothing wrong.
I'm using Windows Media 9 on both machines, compared the installed codecs, they seem to be identical.
If I play the file in Media Player Classic, it works just fine, so that fixes my problem at least. I guess I'm just confused why one player works but not the other. I always assumed the players would use the same decoder, is this not the case with MPEG-1?
Anybody else had this problem with MPEG-1 in Windows Media 9?
    Thanks.

    I haven't

There's about to be hordes of people who'll come in and say that Windows Media Player is crap, so be ready

Perfect playback in Media Player Classic confirms that there's nothing wrong with your codecs, or the file in question. It sounds to me like Windows Media Player might have some sort of glitch/corruption.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I use bsplayer and never have a problem. I used to use wmp but found bsplayer to have more features.

It just sounds like the buffer needs to refill.
