I've been playing with a lot of the programs mentioned here, and they all seem great for cutting out segments. I'm looking to split a 30 minute clip into 5 min clips, which would give me 6 clips. This is just an example.
I find that when I have an mpeg from a crappy VHS source, the audio/video loses sync. if I author with the whole mpeg file. So, I cut it up into 5 minute chuncks, and use that inside of TDA. The resulting video is seamless, and in sync.
As of now, I just use Womble MPEG-VCR to manually cut and save 5 minute segments, and it takes FOREVER. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'll give it a look again. I don't recall that feature being able to do more than simple cutting and selecting of preferred parts.
Thanks. -
Womble is about the fastest

BJ_M: So, you're saying just do it the manual way? No batch process?

i dont know of any batch method ... i would just fix the sync problems myself ...

Thanks. I don't usually encour sync. problems when I convert my own Hi8 camcorder tapes. I started a small business to cover the costs of my new toys ($350 JVC VCR and other hardware). I have since recouped all my investments, and that kept the wife happy that I wasn't just blowing money. Anyway, my sync. issues come with videos that other people send me. Like old wedding videos from the 80's. I use the ADS Instand DVD 2.0, which uses an external hardware codec to do the analog to digital conversion, and it locks the audio to video.
So even on a crappy video, the resulting MPEG file has perfectly sync'd audio/video throughout. The problem only arises when I feed that into TDA. It throws the audio/video out of sync during the VOB creation. If you or anyone else has any suggestions, I'm all ears.
Otherwise, I guess I'm stuck doing my 5 minute clips. -
Is it Mpeg1 or 2 ? If it's Mpeg1, you can use MPGTX
http://mpgtx.sourceforge.net/
"Suppose you want to split matrix-trailer.mpg into 166 playable chunks with the basename mychunk
mpgtx -166 matrix-trailer.mpg -b mychunk
Now processing Chunk 1/166 ... 100.00%
Now processing Chunk 2/166 ... 92.79%
[...]
You will then have 166 files named mychunk-001.mpg to mychunk-166.mpg " -
Crap. No, I have MPEG 2 files. The Instant DVD 2.0 captures directly to DVD compatible MPEG 2 files. It's great, but I guess I need a TBC.

Don't give up yet. I'm not.

Choose the "Make PS" Button, and you'll see the option to split the file in even chunks. -
