    Will give it a try and see what happens.

    One other thing,I noticed the message "Write to fail" appear briefly at the top of the screen when the timer program dies.

    Oh and I set up a timer record program using a blank dvd rather than the hard disk and that worked fine as did instant recording straight to the hard drive.
    I had thes same symptoms also. I gess these are because of file system update in firmware 191.

    From 5045_changes.txt

    ver.185 --> ver.191.

    1. fix: long time record problem in file system layer.
    2. modify: new file system organization.
    . . .
    You have to erase HDD to organize file system again. Shame that Liteon support site doesn't say anything about erasing the HDD to make system work again.

    Reading the post by D_arkTrooper carefully, the problem is definitely not the same as the iLO HD04 lockup problem. I own an 5045 too and I noticed the same problem. The difference is that 5045 does not "freeze on hello", and does not have to be unplugged to reboot. It just shuts itself down and you can boot it up as usual afterwards.

    I just wanted to report that with my 5045 I have not had any problem with Timer record. I have it set to record a program every weeknight in EP speed and so far its working. I'm going to try recording some CD-Rs on there after I injest some voice and music on the Hard drive. I will try to use the edit abilities of the unit to master them to CD-R. I will report on that when I have completed the intial project.

    I did my CD-R on the LVW-5045 and if I had read the instruction manual it would have saved me from starting over but once I knew how to do it "right" it was a breeze. Making new track is easy with a push of the Edit button so your audio source can be in continuious play. I even did a CD to HD copy but it seemed to be 1 or 2x speed because it definately took longer than a DVD to HD copy.
    SO far my unit been impressive. Can't wait to get my cousin from Australia to send me the DVDs in PAL. Unit is suppose to playback PAL on NTSC TV (It Converts because of the chipset mod).

    Go into the SETUP and adjust the tuner by +/- 0.1 increments. Find YOUR perfection tuner hold. This is a WONDERFUL feature, especially on cable signals. Channels that were previously bad can be tweaked oh-so-carefully.

    This is how the 5001 works, would be shocked is others were any different.

  7. I`ve read a lot about the performance of the tv tuner on the 5045.On the machine I have,when the tv is displaying the picture from the recorder (all 5 standard UK channels as I dont have Sky/digital......yet),the overall quality is quite appalling with ghosting and interference etc.However,no such poor quality is present when the channel is recorded and played back.This is just by using a standard aerial and signal booster unit.This to me is of no great importance as I would never sit and watch tv using the signal from the recorder anyway.

    It just seems a bit.................odd. :/

  9. I am wondering if anyone has this particular problem that I have with the LVW 5045. I am able play discs recorded on the 5045 on my standalone DVD player and the DVD rom on my computer. However I cannot play a DVD authored on my computer from a captured TV progarm on the 5045. I am wondeering if anyone has this problem and if so how it was resolved. Other than this I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality and the performance of this piece of equipment.
