  1. My results converting VHS tapes to DVD with my new Sony RDR- GX300 are very good. My results converting digital camcorder tapes to DVD are not good. There is considerable lose of detail. I think the cause is because this Sony recorder has only analog inputs and the conversion process from digital to analog then back to digital destroys the detail.

Which DVD recorders, with DV inputs, make excellent DVD’s from digital camcorder tapes?

  2. My Maxent rs-215 (cheap) has a firewire (DV) input and it seems to do a very good job recording from my Sony digital camcorder. I'm guessing it's the firewire input that determines how well it will do with DV from camcorder.

I own the Toshiba RD-XS32 and it makes fantastic dubs from my Canon Mini-DV camcorder, using the firewire/DV input. The finished DVD's are, to my eyes, indistinguishable from the originals.

When I plugged in my camcorder, the Toshiba instantly recognized the exact model of camcorder I have, and when I pressed record on the Toshiba, the Toshiba took control of my camcorder. Very cool!

  4. I have done both, DV by iLINK and analog. I found that with my setup the analog is little bit better. Yet, it is cool to let the (using iLINK) DVD control the cam to skip some video. This is all done by one remote. There are other posts talking about DV tape to DVD. Search for them. There is some interesting infor.
    This stuff is hard, why??
