I recently converted a DV avi to mpeg2 with QuEnc 0.57. I have 1 problem and 1 question. The resultant mpeg had no audio. I'm wondering if since I used a Type 1 DV avi this was the problem. Should I use Type 2 avi with QuEnc to take advantage of the internal ac3 audio?

Also, when I encoded, the GOP was set to 18. I'm not sure why it was set to that, but I just read in one of the user guides, a GOP of 12 should be used when the destination will be dvd. Do I need to reencode (another 20 hours on my slow machine) with a GOP of 12?

    Thanks,

    Andy

quenc is a video only encoder. use something else to convert the audio like besweet, ffmpeggui or belight,

okey...the latest versions supports audio......but you can still try use a separate audio encoder.

The gop should be 18 for NTSC. Read http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html

Thanks Baldrick. I think I'll try one of the dv type converters o change my avi to type 2. Virtualdub does not like type one. Then I'll strip out the audio and mux with my m2v that I got from QuEnc.
